May 31, 2026 — Project Status Update: Current Challenges & Future Outlook
Greetings, Marine Citizens!
As you have likely noticed, there has been a significant lull in updates since early February. A lot has happened behind the scenes, and I want to be completely transparent with the community about the realities of where the project stands today.
Current Development Challenges
- Academic Workload: A massive influx of academic commitments, homework, and university assignments has consumed the vast majority of my available time.
- Solo Operation: While these updates use "we" to maintain a professional project tone, Sirenia is entirely a single-developer effort.
- Why We Aren't Ready for Collaborators Yet: We are not quite ready to open the floor to outside programmers or co-developers due to two main hurdles:
- Zero Budget: This is entirely free software. Because it generates no revenue, there is no financial way to fairly compensate anyone for their labor.
- Evolving Workflows: I am still learning the ropes of open-source project management and organizational structures. Without a defined contract or clear workflow system in place, onboarding others would be too chaotic right now.
- Independent Engineering: There is no direct technical assistance on the core codebase—though the micro-support and encouragement from the community are incredibly appreciated.
- Financial Realities: Sirenia is intended to be a free application distributed as a pre-compiled executable (meaning it remains closed-source for now). It is driven entirely by passion, learning, and the joy of programming, but it does not generate income. Ultimately, real-life financial responsibilities and paying the bills must take priority.
Because of these factors, official progress on Sirenia will move at a VERY MUCH SLOWER PACE. Moving forward, you can expect major updates to roll out primarily during academic semester breaks.
The Silver Lining: What's Next on the Roadmap
Do not lose heart! The long-term vision for the simulator is completely planned out, and work will continue on the following milestones:
- User-Friendly Homepage (Successfully completed!)
- Interactive & Informative UX (Displaying data more clearly)
- Comprehensive UI Overhaul (Making the interface look much cleaner)
- Multi-Language Localization (With Bahasa Indonesia prioritized first!)
- Desktop Installer / Installation Wizard
How You Can Help
Right now, the absolute best way to support the project is simply to give the author some patience and breathing room to balance real life, academic demands, and coding. Thank you for standing by the project!
